Creating Units of Measure in Product Catalog

To set up multiple units of measure for products in the product catalog, including a main unit of measure, a larger unit, and a smaller unit, to facilitate inventory management, sales, and purchasing.

    • Start in the product catalog.
    • Select a product (e.g., number two pencil).
  2. Set Main Unit of Measure:
    • Navigate to the product tab
    • Define the main unit of measure when creating a product.
    • Consider the main unit for counting, selling, and inventory purposes.
  3. Navigate to Unit of Measure Tab:
    • Jump to the unit of measure tab labeled, UOM.
  4. Create Larger Unit of Measure:
    • Click to create a new unit of measure (e.g., case).
    • Assign a unique UPC code for the unit.
    • Check the "is larger" box for larger units.
    • Set the multiplier (e.g., a case holds 10 packs).
    • Determine if the unit is sellable.
    • Ensure the unit is an integer for whole number quantities.
  5. Create Smaller Unit of Measure:
    • Create another unit of measure (e.g., each).
    • Uncheck the "is larger" box for smaller units.
    • Set the multiplier based on the main unit (e.g., 10 each in a pack).
  6. Check Pricing:
    • Verify pricing calculations for each unit of measure.
    • Refresh the screen if needed to ensure accurate pricing display (by pressing F5).
Cautionary Notes:
  • Ensure the main unit of measure is correctly set for the product.
  • Double-check the multiplier values for larger and smaller units to avoid pricing errors.
  • Confirm that sellable units are appropriately designated.
Tips for Efficiency:
  • If it is important for your business use unique UPC codes for different units of measure to streamline inventory management.
  • Consider the most common unit of measure for your business needs when setting the main unit.
