Verifone Point AVS/CVV2 Rules and Actions

The AVS/CVV2 Rules and Action settings are used when processing a credit card on a Verifone Payware Device. Note the AVS/CVVS Rules are set on the HPP account for virtual terminal and ecommerce transactions. Credit card payment information is sent through the EBMS gateway to the payment processor, and on to the bank issuer. The bank issuer may then report that the credit card is accepted, but there is some information that does not match. In many cases, there is an extra fee applied when this mismatches occur. In order to balance these mismatches, EBMS allows businesses to set up terms on what to do for various scenarios.

  • Accept if successful: the card is accepted and let through silently, without the clerk at the terminal even noticing

  • Ask to void or accept: will ask the clerk to deny or accept the card

  • Auto-void: silently denies the card and provides one of the reasons shown below

The two sets of rules include Address Verification System (AVS) and Card Verification Codes (CVV2, CVC2, CVD, CID):
