It started because the software didn’t exist yet.
Jake Esh wasn’t trying to start a software company. He was doing sales at a Lancaster County fruit farm when it bought its first computer, ended up automating the payroll, and found the financial system bolted on top of it didn’t work. So he built a better one.
ESH Computer Center opened in February 1989, out of his basement. His brother Glenn joined in 1992 and together they wrote the first EBMS — text-based, running on DOS.
DOS to Windows to what runs today: a robust ERP that connects all the parts of your business. What hasn’t changed is who we build it for. Businesses that started with us on DOS are still running EBMS, because every version answered what our clients needed next — and because Jake, Mike and the people here genuinely like these businesses. Scrappy, long-term, rooted in their communities. We’re still independent, still serving US & Canada from Lancaster, PA, and we are more than software.
