OmniSearch - A new way to find what you are looking for!
Find and open a record
- Click the search bar below the EBMS menu, or press Ctrl+Shift+F from the main EBMS window.
- Enter at least three characters from the record you want to find.
- Select a result to open the record on its normal EBMS window:
- Click a result with the mouse.
- Press the Down Arrow key to move into the results, and then press Enter.
- Press Enter immediately after typing to search and open the best match.
The search words are shown in bold within each result. Customer and vendor results include location and phone information when available. Inventory results include the item description and manufacturer part number when available.
When the scope is All, an exact record ID is highlighted ahead of less exact matches. If more matches exist than can be shown, select More customers..., More vendors..., or More inventory... to see up to 20 results of that type.
Inactive records are shown in gray with an Inactive label. Depending on the Smart Lookup settings, inactive records can be excluded from general results. An inactive record can still appear when its exact ID is entered.
Limit a search to one type of record
The scope button on the left side of the search bar determines which records EBMS searches. Select All, Customers, Vendors, or Inventory.
The scope can also be changed from the keyboard by entering a prefix at the beginning of the search:
| Prefix | Search scope | Example |
|---|---|---|
a: |
All | a:smith |
c: |
Customers | c:smith |
v: |
Vendors | v:acme |
i: |
Inventory | i:filter |
The prefix changes the scope and is removed from the search text. Uppercase prefixes also work.
Start an order or open an inventory countSelect a result and press Ctrl+Enter, or hold Ctrl while clicking the result, to start a common task:
| Result | Action |
|---|---|
| Customer | Start a new sales order for the customer |
| Vendor | Start a new purchase order for the vendor |
| Inventory item | Open the item's Count tab |
The bottom of the results list describes the action for the highlighted record. If the results have not finished refreshing, the first press of Ctrl+Enter refreshes and highlights the best match; press Ctrl+Enter again to perform the action.
Open a recent record (User/Workstation specific history)
Click an empty search bar to list records recently opened from the search bar. The most recently opened record appears first.
Recent records are stored separately for each EBMS user and company. Only records opened from this search bar are included. Records that were deleted or that the current user can no longer view are omitted.
Select Clear recent at the bottom of the list to remove the recent-record history for the current user and company.
Keyboard shortcuts
| Shortcut | Result |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+Shift+F | Move to the search bar and select its current text |
| Down Arrow | Move from the search bar into the results |
| Up Arrow or Down Arrow | Change the highlighted result |
| Enter | Open the highlighted result, or search and open the best match |
| Ctrl+Enter | Start an order or open the inventory item's Count tab |
| Esc | Close the results; press it again to return to the previous window or field |
The search shortcut applies within the main EBMS window. A custom window that already uses Ctrl+Shift+F keeps its existing shortcut.
Configure the search bar
Go to File > System Options > Smart Lookup
The search bar uses these Smart Lookup options:
- Number of preview results controls how many results of each type appear when the scope is All. Set it to 0 (disabled) to hide the search bar completely.
- Exclude inactive customers, vendors, products, and G/L accounts removes inactive customers, vendors, and inventory items from general search results.
- Also find products by the name of their folder allows inventory searches to match product folder names.
A change to Number of preview results takes effect after EBMS is restarted or the main window is resized.
Availability and security
EBMS searches only record types whose modules are installed. Results also follow the current user's table, record, and field security. Information that the user cannot view elsewhere in EBMS is not displayed in the search results.
The main-window search currently includes customers, vendors, and inventory items. Use the existing lookup lists to find workers, jobs, G/L accounts, and other record types.
